The 2016 European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing will take place in Brussels from the 5th to the 8th December 2016. The summit is organised by DG CONNECT of the European Commission in cooperation with the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions.

Building on achievements from different EU actions, including the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy ageing (EIP AHA) and the Active and Assisted Living Joint Programme, the event intends to mobilise relevant stakeholders around a common vision for scaling up innovation in Health and Active Ageing. The event furthermore seeks to identify growth areas for digital innovation for active and healthy ageing in Europe, enabled by cross-portfolio policy action.

On the 6th December, a high-level policy and strategy discussion will take place within the framework of the Blueprint on the Digital Transformation of health and care. The discussions will inform an EU vision on how digital innovation can transform health and care for the ageing society, creating economic growth and jobs in the Silver Economy.

Dr Peter Varnai (Technopolis Group) will present in the afternoon session the Silver Economy project with the aim to discuss thematic opportunities for Europe with stakeholders. The presentation will include identified macroeconomic trends and selected business cases developed as part of the project, as well as testimonials from experts from the 50+ Entrepreneurship Platform, Action Group D4 of the EIP-AHA on Age-Friendly Tourism, and AGQua project (Hamburg, Germnay) on Age-Friendly Built Environment. Finally, an announcement will be given on the first European-level award scheme “Silver Economy Awards” rewarding innovative solutions that demonstrate significant impact on the quality of life of the ageing population.
